چکیده

a history of wheezy bronchitis. Exercise tests were carried out on 18 children who had had wheezy bronchitis under the age of 5 years during hospitalization 7 years previously. A control group of 12 children who had been hospitalized with gastroenteritis at the same time were also studied. It was found that there was still a significant increase in bronchial lability among the wheezy bronchitis group compared with the controls, and this was especially obvious in the 7 children who had continued to have mild episodes of wheezing. It is suggested that the same abnormal mechanism operates in at least some cases of wheezy bronchitis as it does in asthma.

Atopy, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and peak flow variability in children with mild occasional wheezing.

BACKGROUND Children who suffer from recurrent wheezy episodes are often promptly classified as asthmatic. The aim of this study was to evaluate a population of mild wheezy children with repeatedly normal spirometric tests at rest for atopy, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and peak expiratory flow variability. METHODS Thirty nine children aged 6-16 years with 1-12 wheezy attacks during the prev...

Relationship between bronchial hyperresponsiveness and development of asthma in wheezy infants.

STUDY OBJECTIVES To evaluate the relationship between bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) in infants with wheezing and the subsequent development of asthma. INTERVENTION Bronchial reactivity to inhaled methacholine (BRm) during the infantile period was studied using the transcutaneous partial pressure of oxygen (tcPO(2)) method. Children were followed long-term for the development of asthma. ...
